When we look at the look and feel changes introduced in the Outlook 2013 edition, the message preview feature makes a distinct impression. It essentially showcases initial one or two lines from the email text in the Inbox message list. This change has been introduced with the idea of helping you glance through the emails and focus on the important ones when you are short in time. While the feature has been widely appreciated by many, some of us may have some privacy concerns around it. Normally in an office the Outlook client is typically kept open through the day. In some cases you would not like passing visitors to catch the contents of the emails present in your Inbox, even if they are just the initial lines. So if you wish to get rid of the message preview just follow the steps mentioned below to achieve the same.
At times you may experience the need to change the size of the message header associated with an Outlook 2013 email. As compared to its earlier editions, the 2013 iteration sports a large header file. However you can choose to reduce it to a compact size by clicking on the chevron figure icon which typically appears in the bottom right corner of the header. However it is important to note that this will only work if your Outlook application is regularly updated as Microsoft had specifically released an update in November 2013 to address this issue.
The Outlook 2013 is without a doubt miles ahead of its predecessors when it comes to its rich feature set. Yet when it comes to Outlook errors, it remains in the same zone of vulnerability as its earlier editions. In other words you never know which Outlook error may jump up any bright day and crash the application. However with the help of a pst recovery application like the venerable DataNumen Outlook Repair, you can always hope to recover the compromised files without spending a fortune. This sophisticated program is capable of dealing with nearly every PST corruption incident and can even recover those temporary files that Outlook may have created just before it crashed.

Thanks for posting back. I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd post that link just in case. Did you remember if you got a pop up from Outlook when you installed the 2013 version? Otherwise, the uninstall/reinstall option may help in not adding the BD Toolbar onto Outlook when you install BD, disable the Antispam option, then load Outlook and deny it if it requests a Toolbar add on to install. Others here may have some follow up thoughts.
this just changes the theme on ms office 2010, it only changes the headings and tabs, it does not change the body of outlook from white to black, this is not dark mode. this is just the stupid theme setting. not any help at all.
Just got upgraded to Office 2013 today. I do like the lighter colors, BUT, NOT to work in. If I was glancing at a brief website article with these colors, it would be ok. But that is not the case. I am using Outlook all day for work, and I am looking at the screen for long periods of time. And yes, it does hurt my eyes after a period of required squinting. I wish there was an easy way to change the entire color scheme for those of use with more sensitive eyes.
The color scheme and options available on 2010\2013 are very difficult for people with low vision or for people having problems with discerning color differences. There are more of us than you realize. Plus the brightness feels similar to migraine symptoms for sensitive people. Light blue or gray on white is nearly impossible for me to distinguish. I work all day on the computer. Please bring in bold color upgrades for the entire Outlook and Word formats. (Including frames; toolbars; ribbons, etc.)
What absolute trash, Outlook 2013 is the most hard to look at think i have seen on a computer since friggin PONG. If i had known i would never have upgraded from 2010. We should be burying Microsoft in complaints.
Unfortunately these colors are hard-coded into Outlook. I believe however that feedback Microsoft receives about the missing UI customization feature (especially in all-white Outlook 2013) is so big that the Redmond company will treat us with it in the near future.
