Google Glass, or simply Glass, is a brand of smart glasses developed and sold by Google. It was developed by X (previously Google X),[9] with the mission of producing a ubiquitous computer.[1] Google Glass displays information to the wearer using a head-up display.[10] Wearers communicate with the Internet via natural language voice commands.[11][12]

The Google Glass prototype resembled standard eyeglasses with the lens replaced by a head-up display.[21] In mid-2011, Google engineered a prototype that weighed 8 pounds (3.6 kg);[22] by 2013 they were lighter than the average pair of sunglasses.[1]

The Google Glass if you think about it, is perfect to coach someone in breast feeding: if you are holding or feeding a baby, imagine a camera mounted on your glasses and look down. There you have the world's best view for checking the baby's latch and your breastfeeding technique![88]

In the US, West Virginia state representative Gary G. Howell introduced an amendment in March 2013 to the state's law against texting while driving that would include bans against "using a wearable computer with head mounted display". In an interview, Howell stated, "The primary thing is a safety concern, it [the glass headset] could project text or video into your field of vision. I think there's a lot of potential for distraction."[124]

In a Tuesday blog post(Opens in a new window), Glass Project Lead Jay Kothari announced a "new chapter" for the device. After working on an enterprise version of the wearable, aptly named Glass Enterprise Edition, for the past two years, the team is finally ready to bring it to more businesses.

The new and improved Glass will go up against Microsoft's HoloLens, which is also positioning its AR headset as an enterprise workhorse. Officially, Redmond's wearable is for "developers and business customers," but anyone with $3,000 can check it out.

The Google Glass 2 is an advanced wearable device specifically designed to improve productivity and facilitate communication between employees. The device is designed to be worn like glasses, making it easy and comfortable to use during long working days.

The Glass 2 is certainly a big evolution over the first Model, and it works quite well: the glasses are light and comfortable, the materials are solid, the user interface is good (swiping without relying on voice commands is very useful).I'd say they're decent smart glasses: if you need it for applications where you don't have to constantly look at the screen, such as scanning barcodes to put certain items in a database, then the Glass is a great solution. Comfort and also for the eyes is a subjective experience. I found it quite tiring after a few hours, but that may not be the case for everyone. Otherwise, I'd recommend borrowing them for a few days and testing how good they feel to your eyes before deciding whether to buy them or not.

The good news is that even if you're not based in the USA, you can still purchase the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2. The USA Google website does not offer international shipping, but our shopping service can help you buy the glasses and deliver them to your international address.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Verizon Business today announced BlueJeans Meetings is now available for Glass Enterprise Edition 2*. Coming soon, business customers can purchase Glass Enterprise Edition 2 with BlueJeans preloaded* from Verizon for $1,139.99 to integrate glass wearables into the new ways of working. For a limited time, customers can get up to $700 off Glass Enterprise Edition 2 when purchased with a Pixel 6.

BlueJeans Meetings with Pixel 6 and Glass Enterprise Edition 2 offers convenient and secure video collaboration that allows enterprise remote and field workers to focus on doing their best work rather than wrangling tools.

The Meet team is working with the community of Google Workspace partners to enable Google Meet on Glass Enterprise Edition 2 for customers in North America, Europe, and Australia. Customers in Japan can now also get Glass through a first-of-its-kind partnership with NTT DOCOMO, which can provide Meet on Glass directly to its customers in Japan. After extensive testing, NTT DOCOMO chose Google Meet on Glass as the preferred solution for their business customers who want frontline collaboration solutions for their enterprises.

Meanwhile, Google has been continuing its work on Android-powered AR headsets. For instance, our team found signs of Google working on the types of smart ring controls seen on the Focals by North (a company that Google acquired). Last May, at its annual I/O conference, the company even showed off an in-progress live transcription and translation feature on AR smart glasses.

Google has canned sales of its Glass Enterprise Edition smart glasses and plans to end support later this year as multiple vendors contend with an uncertain economy by cutting from extended reality divisions.

To be fair, Google probably has bigger fish to fry, and the aging smartglasses platform may well be replaced sooner rather than later. Google said last summer it would be conducting real world tests of its early AR prototypes, emphasizing things like real-time translation and AR turn-by-turn navigation.

Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 is the successor of the original consumer-oriented Google Glass device that was ultimately shelved in 2015 after several years of testing. Although it never made the grade as a consumer product, Google relaunched it specifically as an enterprise workplace tool for use in industries such as construction and healthcare, where professionals can actually make use of a simple heads-up display while on the job.

I have purchased Google Glass EE2 in October and intend to mainly use the TeamViewer Pilot on the smartglass. I have uploaded the apk and installed the TeamViewer Pilot application into the glass. However, the application is not showing in the application list and therefore, it cannot be launched. It is stated in TeamViewer website that the Pilot application is compatible to GGEE2.

This morning, Google announced Glass Enterprise Edition, the next version of Glass specifically designed for the enterprise. VMware has been working closely with Google since 2015, most recently to provide advanced support for Android enterprise and accelerate the adoption of Chromebooks, and today, we are excited to announce same-day support for Glass Enterprise Edition.

In addition to Google, we have also partnered with Atheer, ODG, RealWear, Inc, Upskill, and VUZIX Corp to deliver wearable management and app delivery solutions at scale. VMware AirWatch Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platform provides a simple yet robust solution to manage and support augmented and mixed reality applications on both Android- and Windows-based smart glasses.

Competitors Apple and Meta have also been working on AR glasses with an eye toward a consumer release sometime in the future, but limitations in both optical and battery technology make it likely that they're still a ways off from mass-market adoption.

Google is pitching Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 as a workplace tool, for use in industries such as medical, construction, or even in factories. It's actually a second-generation model of the Enterprise Edition. It launched in May 2019 and can attach to a pair of eyeglasses or goggles.

Though Google said it would stop selling the headset as of Wednesday, it plans to continue supporting the glasses until Sept. 15. Google said the glasses will continue to work after Sept. 15, but it doesn't plan to issue any software updates and its preinstalled Meet the Glass app may stop working after that date.

Vuzix user-centered ergonomic design delivers smartglasses with a bright, unobtrusive display with expansive field of view with an emphasis on maximum comfort and diverse mounting options for any working environment.

Google had been developing smart glasses for multiple years before a public retail version became available in 2014, following a limited-availability run in 2013. This was during a time when smart devices, multitasking, and button-free commands became the main topics and talking points in the tech industry. The company felt that then was the right time to push Google Glass to consumers, as it offered a hand-free means of viewing content and performing tasks. The idea of users being able to take phone calls and use platforms like Facebook any time, and without a smartphone, gave Google the early impression that Glass might be a success.

However, Google isn't entirely finished with its Glass ambitions. In May 2019, the company released the second version of its Enterprise Edition model. This pair of glasses are advertised as a risk-free means of increasing productivity in the workplace, as the screen inside the right lens allows employees to multitask without the need of turning to a phone, another program, or another computer. These spectacles also come with AR and VR capabilities, USB-C charging, and an improved processor and camera. As a result, while it's no longer commercially available as a retail product, Google Glass still does exist.

While the original Google Glass is dead, Google announced new prototype AR glasses at its I/O developer conference in May 2022. In a short video, Google displayed a pair of AR glasses that come with Google Translate built-in. The AR glasses translate languages in real-time, removing the communication barrier between two people who don't speak or understand the same language. The video shows the translated text appearing in a corner, letting the wearer see the world around them and the translations simultaneously. Google Product Manager Max Spear calls them "subtitles for the world." 041b061a72
