Next, press the bars into a parchment-lined baking pan. Scoop the mixture onto the bottom of the pan, and cover it with another sheet of parchment paper. Firmly press the mixture to the sides of the pan with your hands. Then, use the back of a measuring cup to smooth and flatten the tops of the bars.

These bars are delicious but they are a little too sweet for my taste. I tried to just put less honey but I think that affects the binding of everything. Do you have any suggestions of how I can cut the sweetness but still maintain the right chewiness and texture?

I have tried this recipe at my home. It came in an excellent way. My colleagues love it very much. Thanks for the recipe. It is a healthy snack, it is rich in protein content. Completely satisfied with this recipe.

Whether you had them in your lunch box as a kid or eat them now for an on-the-go snack, granola bars continue to be a hot commodity among people of all ages. According to IRI (Chicago) data from the past 52 weeks, the "granola bars" category brought in $1.468 billion in sales, with a 8.9 percent increase from last year with Nature Valley at the forefront bringing in $616 million in sales.

Based on the data, it's safe to say that the demand for granola bars isn't going anywhere anytime soon. With that said, not all granola bars are created equal, meaning they all don't have the healthiest ingredients.

"A high-quality granola bar will have at least 3 grams fiber from whole grains, healthy fat and protein from nuts and seeds, and no more than 6 grams added sugar from natural sources like dried fruit or honey," says Danielle McAvoy, Senior Manager of Nutrition for Territory Foods. Additionally, Sarah Koszyk, MA, RDN and co-founder of MIJA, adds that a granola bar with high-quality ingredients will ideally have no preservatives or artificial colors.

Breanna Woods, MS, RD, registered dietitian for Blogilates, says these are one of her favorite granola bars with 3 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein. This granola bar has a list of ingredients that you can actually read: gluten-free certified oats, dried blueberries, organic lemon oil, sea salt, etc. To top it off, seeds have a plethora of health benefits from helping reduce cholesterol levels to creating more red blood cells which gives this granola bar a leg up on its competition.

If you're craving a more sweet granola bar, then you may want to consider this chocolate peanut butter hybrid. "Core bars are a great example of a clean, whole foods-based granola bar with a good balance of fiber, fat, protein, and no added sugar," says McAvoy. Not only does it have probiotics, prebiotics, Vitamin D and C, and Zinc, but also it's made with gluten-free whole grain oats, peanuts, and dates just to name some of the high-quality ingredients.

Koszyk generally recommends choosing granola bars with less than 2 grams of added sugar if using the bar as a snack. This Lara Bar has no added sugar and is made with just three ingredients: dates, pecans, and almonds. Plus, it has four grams of dietary fiber which will help improve digestive health and keep you satisfied for longer.

While this granola bar may have slightly more added sugar than other bars at four grams, it's made with high-quality ingredients you can read like sunflower seeds, coconut, almonds, and honey just to name a few. Additionally, Brondo recommends steering clear of sugar alcohols and there is none in these grain-free granola bars.

KIND bars like this one are great if you're looking for a granola bar with whole grains as its first ingredient is oats. Woods also loves these Kind granola bars but they only have 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein. "When I eat these as a snack, I pair it with either cheese for more protein, or some berries to get more fiber."

I used agave and did have to soak my dates as I buy in bulk and freeze them. My only add-ins were 4 small dried apricots chopped into small pieces and a pinch of cinnamon. I always have difficulty making granola bars. Mine always come out too soft and sticky. This recipe seemed simple and easy but once again my bars are too soft and sticky to hold. Is that just normal for homemade granola bars? What could be wrong?

This is an excellent recipe which I have on high rotation for a snack after cycling to and from work. Perfect with a hot cup of tea and for sharing with keen colleagues.I make sure to cut each almond and take time carefully mix in the dates to help the bars hold together. Today I forgot to add the peanut butter and maple syrup mix, but realised my mistake as I started to put the pan in the freezer. I was able to pull the mixture back into a bowl and add the missing ingredients. This recipe keeps me well. Thank you.

Wow! Just WOW!!! So very yummy and easy to make! I used maple syrup and did not add any of the optional ingredients but will experiment with these in the future. Never buying granola bars again! I had to put these in the freezer so I am not tempted to eat them every time I see them.

My bars were very very sticky. I double checked the recipe and I did measure the right amount of oats. I also checked measurement of other ingredients. They bend when picked up and are not rigid. What went wrong?

Hi! I have been searching for a homemade granola bar recipe for my daughter who has several food allergies to common ingredients in most granola bars, so I love that yours only has five ingredients. My question is: would I be able to substitute Rice Krispies (or another non-oat cereal) for the oats? Thank you for your help!

Chill for two hours. Finally, we like to refrigerate the granola mixture for about 2 hours. This hardens everything and makes it easy to cut the granola mixture into bars. Right out of the refrigerator the bars will be hard since they are cold. Leave them out for an hour and they will warm to room temperature and become a little softer and chewy.

Pour the butter mixture into the bowl with toasted oats and almonds. Mix well. Let cool about 5 minutes, and then add the cranberries and a 1/4 cup of the mini chocolate chips. Stir to combine. Some of the chocolate chips will melt a little. This is fine, they turn into glue and help to hold the bars together.

Scatter the remaining 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips over the pressed granola mixture, and then use a rubber spatula to gently press them into the top. Cover then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or freeze for about 30 minutes. Remove the block of granola mixture from pan then peel away the foil or parchment. Cut into 12 bars.

Store granola bars in an airtight container for up to one week. For the softest bars, keep at room temperature. For slightly harder bars, store in the fridge. Bars will keep in the freezer for up to three months when wrapped well.

Homemade granola bars are awesome! They taste delicious, they travel well, they are just plain easy to make, and they are inexpensive. Need a snack for preschool, after t-ball, or to take in the car to a game? Granola bars will be there, no matter the need! This recipe makes perfectly chewy granola bars.

Notes: The toasted pecans in the granola bars were my favorite. If you are going to use pecans don't skip the toasting step because it makes them amazing! I have bought dried tart cherries, dried Bing cherries, and dried "sweet" cherries recently. They are all delicious (again I got some at Trader Joe's and the tart cherries online from Bob's Red Mill). I liked the tang of the tart cherries the best but any will work really.

Notes: Did you even have those "Kudos" bars when you were a kid that were practically an oat candy bar? These taste just like them. I used both natural and traditional peanut butter with success. The addition of a few peanuts would be delicious though I didn't try it.

These are very tasty but were a little crumbly after my first attempt. I'm going to tinker with it.I was wondering - does the brown sugar help the bars stick together or is it for flavor?Thank you!

It's less an issue with the knife and more with your bars, I bet the agave didn't thicken up quite like honey does with it is cooked, maybe try boiling it a few minutes to see if you get a better result next time.

Thank you for a great recipe! I honestly never would have tried making these if a neighbor didn't ask for granola bars (instead of cookies) as a thank you gift. Now that I know how easy it is, I don't know if I'll ever buy another box of granola bars! Definitely don't skip toasting the oats, and I used raw nuts and seeds so I toasted them with the oats (and that was definitely a win). What size pan do you press your granola bars into?

I had been looking for a granola bar recipe that wasn't too sweet or gritty from the sugar. Also I wanted them to stick together. These really are the best! My husband and I both love thebtatse and they do not crumble apart. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Waiting for the granola to cool off so I can add the chocolate chips. Has anyone eaten the granola portion before it cooled off? The chocolate chips may not make it in this batch. This granola is so warm and delicious. I should not have tasted it while waiting. End of my review. 041b061a72
